Bangladesh At A Glance

Dhaka with an area of 815.85 sq. km. and population of 10 millions, is the capital of Bangladesh. Dhaka is widely known as the city of mosques. There are more than 3000 mosques in the city, some dating back to the 13th century.

Political and Economical System

Bangladesh country having the parliamentary form of government. It is perusing the free Market Economic System. The new industrial policy aims at increasing the involvement of the private sector in all economic activities.

Major Cities and ports

Dhaka, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, khulna, Rajshahi, Barisal and Sylhet are the major cities of Bangladesh. Main sea ports are Chittagong and Mongla while main air ports are Zia International Airport at Dhaka, Shah Amanat Airport at Chittagong and Osmani International Airport at Sylhet.

Rice, Wheat, Jute, Cotton, Tea, Tobacco, Sugarcane, Pulses, Oil Seeds, Spices, Potato, Green Vegetables, Banana, Mango, Coconut.

Natural Gas, Lime Stone, Ceramic Clay, Glass, sand etc.

Principal Industries

Jute and Cotton, Textile, garments, Tea, Sugar, Paper, Newsprint, Cements, Chemical Engineering, Shipbuilding, Telephone sets and Equipment, Electric cables, Steel, Leather, Medicine & Drugs etc.
